Tran Quoc Tuan appointed to lead Asian Games football operations

On September 15, 2026, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) officially appointed Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, a member of the AFC Executive Committee, as the head of football operations for the 19th Asian Games (ASIAD 2026) to be held in Hangzhou, China. This is the second time Mr. Tuan has taken on this role, having previously performed similar duties at the 2026 Asian Games in Incheon (South Korea) and the 2026 Asian Games in Jakarta (Indonesia). Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, a former student of Nam Dinh Teacher Training College and a provincial-level prize winner during his time at Hai Hau B High School, currently holds multiple important positions in the continental football governance system. Besides his seat on the AFC Executive Committee, he is also the Chairman of the AFC Competitions Committee and a member of the FIFA Men's National Team Competitions Committee for the 2026–2029 term. His rise reflects the growing status of Vietnamese football within the power structure of Asian football. According to AFC sources, the 2026 Asian Games (now moved to 2026 due to the pandemic) will feature 15 men's football teams divided into 4 groups (3 groups of 4 and 1 group of 3). The Vietnam U23 team is placed in Group C along with Kuwait, the Philippines, and Uzbekistan. The scheduled matches are: vs Kuwait on September 15, vs Philippines on September 18, and vs Uzbekistan on September 22, within the group stage running from September 15 to October 4. Coach Dinh Hong Vinh will lead the team. The squad list is expected to be announced on September 9, followed by a team gathering on September 12 and departure to Japan on September 13 for tournament preparation. Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan’s appointment to the Asian Games football operations role once again affirms the prestige of Vietnamese football internationally. Mr. Tuan shared: 'This is an opportunity for me to contribute to the success of the tournament and simultaneously gain management experience from advanced football nations.' The Vietnam U23 team aims to advance past the group stage and progress deep into the knockout rounds under Coach Dinh Hong Vinh. Mr. Tuan's presence in the organizing committee also provides administrative and scheduling advantages for Vietnamese teams.
